ABSTRACT
In our society, it has become more and more prevalent to see processed foods lining the aisles of our grocery stores. As food prices increase, families are forced to resort to eating meals that can ultimately increase the risk of developing cancer. Our project aims to research why certain products not only feed you, but cancer cells as well. We will create a book that examines several common foods with cancer-causing potential, describes why they are harmful, and proposes our own recipes that are not only healthy, but are also inexpensive and taste good. Each section of our book will feature a snack or meal that is often made with ingredients found to have cancer-causing potential. We will explain in a page or longer writeup why the ingredients in this food can impact cancer cells based on research conducted over the summer. On the page next to each of these “cancer-causing foods” will be a recipe of our own creation that is designed to imitate, with ingredients that won’t contribute to the spread of cancer cells. Our hope is that through this cookbook we will open people’s eyes to the necessity of understanding the dangers of what many consume on a daily basis and how healthy recipes can help fight cancer cells and hopefully reverse the pattern of rising cancer diagnoses in our country.
